The new The Chosen movie that originally was scheduled for a two-day release now will play in theaters for at least five days due to high demand for tickets.
Fathom Events, the distributor, originally had said The Chosen Season 3 Finale would hit theaters for only two nights (Feb. 2-3) but this week said the movie’s dates had more than doubled to Feb. 2-6.
The Thursday-to-Monday dates give fans the full weekend to enjoy the cap to Season 3. (The movie includes Episodes 7 and 8.)
Tickets can be purchased through FathomEvents.com, and many showtimes are sellouts or near-sellouts.
The Bible-based hit series follows the story of Jesus and His followers.
“Good news: Because of demand, lots of theaters are adding new dates for the Season 3 finale,” the series’ official Facebook page said Friday.
It will be the third The Chosen box office movie in less than 15 months, following the release of Christmas With The Chosen: The Messengers in 2021 and The Chosen Season 3: Episodes 1 and 2 in November.
Katherine Warnock, vice president of original content for The Chosen, said fans and theaters alike want The Chosenmovies on the big screen.
“What’s been really fun to see is that not only our fans demanding it – we love to gather and come together as Chosen fans to celebrate and see it on the big screen and have that experience – but we’re also seeing the theaters demand it,” Warnock told Christian Headlines. “We’re seeing a huge outpouring of support for The Chosen to be in theaters.”
The film will be in 2,000 theaters. Such a wide release for a faith-based film is somewhat rare. Warnock called the number “fantastic and pretty unheard of.”
Fans, she said, can expect “extraordinarily grand scenes” that “deserve the big screen.” One of those is the Feeding of the 5,000.
“We also get to watch Matthew take a profound journey in his faith,” Warnock said. “We watch as Simon and Eden have just the climactic moment of [a] marital crisis … that we have seen building throughout Season 3. And we also threw a few surprises in there for you.”
