Arkansas Couple Celebrates 70 Years of Marriage, Credits God for Their Strong Relationship

An Arkansas couple just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary, and they attribute their long and happy marriage to their firm trust in the Lord.

The couple, Fred and Christine Ivers, began dating after meeting at a basketball game. Christine was 17 at the time they started dating. Fred was 21.

“We grew into it, just gradually, and the first thing you know, I didn’t want her dating nobody else,” Fred said, according to CBN News.

The pair, who are now 91 and 87, respectively, are thankful for the time they have together.

“We dated a little over a year before we were married,” Christine stated. According to KTAL News, the pair married on May 26, 1951.

Christine thinks that the appealing affection that comes through love and hugs is the key to their long-lasting marriage. “I tell him that a hug in the morning and a kiss at night has kept things together,” she said.

As the years passed, the pair endured many hurdles together. The answer to maintaining a loving marriage, according to the couple, is to keep God first and to forgive.

Family, according to Fred, is among the most important things to him. Those who pray together tend to stick together, even if those prayers take the shape of harmonica songs, which Fred frequently performs for his family.

One of the things they taught to their three sons and daughter while raising them on their family farm was the significance of having a strong faith. Fred explained, “We grew our children up in church, and we’ve learned to trust in the Lord.”

The couple’s eldest son, Rodney Ivers, said his parents were an example of a loving couple and a proper marriage, and they also urged everyone in the family to make the most of life. “They set such a tremendous example for myself and siblings and lived their life to the fullest,” he said.
