How God Changed Longhorn QB’s View on Life

Sophomore Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers is crediting God for transforming his life and changing his perspective on playing football.

According to Faithwire, Ewers, 20, scored nine touchdowns earlier this season. During a press conference, he was asked what has caused him to enjoy the game more this season than last season.

“Just listening to [God] more and not just focusing on my own ways,” he replied.

“God has told me that this game doesn’t define me as a human being, which allows me to play more freely,” he said. “I think really that’s just been the biggest thing for me. … Just listening to Him more and not just focusing on my own ways and knowing that He has a plan for me and to pursue His truth and to continue to seek His truth.”

“I think that’s really been the biggest thing for me, and there’s only one way to freedom, and that’s through Jesus Christ, so find Jesus, and everything else will be free,” Ewers added.

Earlier this month, the rising quarterback gave God the glory for transforming his life.

“God is so good,” he said. “I can’t say that enough — how much God has put me through. He’s made me so strong. I’m so proud of my team and our defense, we balled out. I’m fired up for the rest of the way.”

He also pointed to an article for The Players’ Tribune, saying prayer helped him return home to Texas.

“It’s hard to make life-changing decisions when you’re only 17 or 18 years old,” he wrote. “But this time, I really just tried to block out all the noise and focus on what I wanted for myself. It took a lot of prayer, but I’m confident in the choice I made.”

“Y’all should know I’m one of the most competitive people out there,” he added. “Officially starting my quarterback career as a Longhorn is a dream come true, and I’m prepared to give everything I’ve got to help this program get to where it needs to be.”
